Midtown South Community Council (MSCC) was founded in 1986 to reduce crime and improve quality of life within New York City’s commercial dense Midtown Manhattan.
We’re particularly concerned about the extreme scarcity and continual loss of housing. The preferred commercial development—particularly the abundance of hotels—crushes many of the smaller tenement buildings and destroys neighborhoods.
The ‘more commercial and less housing’ development policy drives the severe housing shortage. Poverty and homelessness are the symptoms.
Addressing the core economic issues that lead to poverty, rather than policing, is the pathway to a healthier and humane society. That’s why we focus on the three major causes of instability: health, hunger, and housing.
We’ve been fighting for a healthier NYC for over 35 years! We're here to share knowledge, ideas, and resources to identify problems and find long-term solutions so communities may thrive.
Meet the TeamAdvocates, health professionals, city agencies, elected officials, politicians, community and faith groups, and community boards and members, work with us for cross purposes to highlight, support, and initiate humane policies.
Learn MoreWe’re relentlessly serving the community through programs and advocating for policy change, and we won’t stop until New York City is a fair place for all. And as a 501c(3) non-profit, we rely on the generosity of others to keep our organization running.

Rather than providing temporary relief or band-aid solutions, MSCC’s interest is on long-term sustainable measures. We understand poverty is the result of our economic system that produces very little opportunities and poor policies. Material resources, access to education, healthy food, healthcare, and social support systems. We’re tackling these issues head-on.
In the next five years, we hope to:
If you care about your fellow man, then partner with us to end poverty in New York City!
