Lazy Reporting

NY Times Comment, Tom Lunke, July 14, 2026

This is typical lazy NYT reporting.  Work-Bites does a much better job of explaining the proposed project and all the intricacies.  All the NYT needs to do is go on the CB4 website to their link regarding FEC to see all the reasons why this demolition plan doesn’t make sense.  The contradictions of this NYCHA/Related proposal are so plentiful that no entity other than the government would throw good money after bad.  Speaking of the government, nowhere does the NYT state that the NYCHA/Related plan would require around $2 billion in taxpayer subsidy, similar to Hudson Yards, in order to make the guaranteed 9% profit Related would get if this project were to move forward as planned.  The NYT also doesn’t mention Atlantic Yards and other large-scale urban renewal schemes that never deliver on their promises of “affordable” housing.—Tom Lunke
