MET Council On Housing: Housing for People- Not Profit

July 24, 2024 | admin

(MET COUNCIL) June 6, 2019

Yesterday in Albany, 61 tenants were arrested and the cops used excessive force in many of the arrests.

Putting our bodies on the line is nothing compared to what many tenants deal with on a regular basis. As soon as our action was over Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins released a statement that the senate democratic conference was in support of All NINE of our bills! This is just another sign that the pressure is working. Read more about yesterdays action in the NY Times.

We have less than 9 days until the rent laws expire and we have a once in a generation chance to end the cycle of eviction and displacement. We have to act and act fast!

In the coming days we are creating a rapid response team who we will email daily with new actions and trips to Albany! If you would like to be part of this team sign up here.

Even if you cannot join us in Albany you can still take action:

Please call Speaker Carl Heastie at 518-455-3791 and tell him: “Support All 9 bills for Universal Rent Control.”

If you are on twitter post:  Click to tweet.@CarlHeastie is collaborating with @NYGovCuomo and valuing real estate over New York Tenants. Enough is enough! ?  Call his office and demand him to #PassAll9 for #UniversalRentControl

Together, we have the power to get Universal Rent Control passed in New York State. The Governor, the Senate, and the Assembly are feeling the pressure.
