Midtown South Community Council Monthly Meeting Minutes for May 16, 2019
PROGRAM:
John Mudd gave an update on council initiatives: $3860 has been raised for homeless families to provide laundry services and 146 families have been served. Council is still negotiating with NYCHA for space for laundry facilities. He mentioned the Homeless and Housing meeting which is held on the first Tuesday of each month.
John introduced Inspector Timoney who gave an update on crime statistics-overall crime was down 1.2% for the 28 day period. There were 3 sex crimes w/ an arrest connected. Robberies were down from 9 to 6, grand larcenies were up 9.4% (80% involving unattended property). Junior Bishop was arrested for felonious assault three weeks after allegedly punching vendors and a pedestrian.There has been an uptick in scams involving prepaid cards, and in email scams. Inspector Timoney suggested that motorcyclists park in a garage to avoid getting their bikes stolen.
MEETING OPENS FOR COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS
Eileen Miller, 26-30 West 38th St Co-op, mentioned a new ATM set outside a new a newRestaurant, Da Tang Szechuan, 18 E38th St.Dutch Express,13 W38th St, the company that delivers packages for Amazon, continues to use W38th St, between 5th & 6th Ave as their hand truck loading zone. This company leaves their excess packaging on the sidewalk and street. PO Ed McDonald is already aware of this company as street level bakery at 21 W38th St had already requested his assistance with this company.
Eugene Sinigalliano reminded those in attendance to email him with tree serving needs such as empty tree pits. He mentioned Council Speaker Corey Johnson has a budget for replacing trees.
Noelle Of Stout raised the issue of garbage collection near her newest location, 60 E41st St
Resident of Times Square Hotel at W43rd St and 8th Ave addressed what he called excessive lightand sound emanating from the NYPD observation tower near the hotel. He also mentioned what he termed excessive smoke from John’s Pizzeria’s air vent.
