April 18, 2019 Midtown South Community Council Monthly Meeting Minutes   
PROGRAM:
John Mudd began the meeting by welcoming those in attendance and urged those signing in to make their email addresses clear and readable. 
John introduced Inspector Timoney who gave an update on  crime statistics-Overall crime down 9% year to date and down 8% for the 28 day period. Robberies up from 6 to 10. There has been an uptick in robberies of food carts by outer borough youths. Felony assaults down to 16 from 23. Burglaries down from 12 to 8. He cited the excellent police work of Det Stanley in solving burglaries. Grand larcenies down from 141 to 128. He reminded all to keep your windows and doors locked
Unattended property continues to be a concern. The use of stolen credit cards in stores like The Gap, Old Navy and Macy’s. The NYPD Financial Task Force is working on solving IRS scams involving green dot and other gift cards. 
Inspector Timoney cautioned against parking motorcycles on the street, as it takes two men to pick it up, put it in the back of a truck and take it away. 
John Mudd addressed the meeting, mentioning that Sharon Jasprizza & Dan, videographer had produced a video featuring people in MTS talking about what benefits they receive from the council. He mentioned that funding is needed for the urban farm in development at the MIdtown Community Court.

SPEAKERS:David Rivera, Outreach Coordinator, NYC’s Dept of Health and Mental Hygiene was guest speaker who described THRIVE NYC & NYC Well(1-888-692-9355, text WELL to 65173,  Chat nyc.gov/nycwell) hotline which provides free and confidential information for mental health resources. He also spoke about Mental Health First Aid, a free eight-hour course that has trained more than 100,000 New Yorkers (including John Mudd) to assist people in distress, including the homeless. It is offered in all five boroughs in English, Spanish and Mandarin
John Mudd mentioned the events planned by Westside Neighborhood Alliance, which is involved with the Housing Justice for All campaign that is fighting to make sure that no tenant in New York State can be evicted without good cause. The WSNA has a petition to sign calling on Gov. Cuomo and legislative leaders to strengthen tenants’ right this year.  Resident from 401 5th Ave thanked MTS for their assistance with a person whoexposed himself. PO Ed McDonald will follow up with PO Reid who handled the initial complaint
Eileen Miller, 26-30 West 38th St Co-op, discussed the new business located at  13 W38th St called Dutch Express. This is a company that delivers packages forAmazon. Trucks from Dutch Express take over either side of West 38th St between 5th & 6th Avenues with their team and collate packages where they use over  20 hand trucks. This company leaves their excess packaging on the sidewalk and street. PO Ed McDonald is already aware of this company as street level bakery ay 21 W38th St had already requested his assistance with this company.
