1. Welcome and Introductions

 John

• introduced Kristen Egen, TBN TV is doing a documentary on Homelessness
• Thanked the NYPD for a great evening for the introduction of the NCO program on Tuesday night Oct 16,  at the Manhattan Center. 
• Thanks to Glenda Gomez and Andrew DiMonda from the Holiday Inn, Angela and Alicia from the Molly Wee pub, Noelle Mooney, from Stout, Shaun Clancy from Foley’s for offering support for this event.
• Pooling Water (CB4)

Sharon outlined the purpose of the visit to one of the SUS Urban farms with Michael Hollis who was a previous guest speaker at the Council. The Council’s urban farm program is working towards building more urban farms in New York. The plan is to include the courtyard at Midtown Court as another location for urban farming.

• Outlined the success of the Council’s Gofundme, Laundry for Kids

1. 1. 1. Raised 3,760.00, we served 72 families so far before school began
      2. NYCHA is working with the Council to provide a space for a laundry

Sharon outlined the GoFund Me needs: Admin, Street Sheets, Art & Culture and space requirements for the Arts and Culture Programs the  Council is working to provide. Partners include Education and Churches.

John 

• provided information about the recent Homeless and Housing committee 10/2/18 
• Street Sheets are at the printers for a draft view print
• Client category updates
• Homeless and Housing Study updates: the study has been sent to CB, City Agencies, Councilman’s Office, Borough President, Advocate, and more. An excerpt of our study will be in Chelsea Now an Express (online and print) next week
• Attended the Chancellor meeting and DA meeting and gave details of work in this area
• Jurisdiction Clarification: regarding Parks Department, DOT.

Inspector Twomey outlined the Precinct Announcements.

Guest speakers

• Christopher LeBron the Co-founder of the committee for “Vote ‘NO’ on 2 & 3”. He sits on Manhattan Community Board 4 and is the youngest member of the Waterfront Parks Environment and Clinton Hell’s Kitchen Land Use and Zoning committees. He represented MCB 4 on First Lady McCray’s Mental Health Awareness Mural Steering Committee. As the President of the West 47th Street Tenants Association Chris was instrumental in the passing the of Council member Carlina Rivera’s “Illegal Hotel” bill passed this Summer. A native of Hell’s Kitchen Chris sits on the executive committee of the Democratic Club that bares his neighborhood’s name the HK Democrats.
• Judy Gross, Director of Literacy + Math Programs Judy is a New York State certified reading specialist and a graduate of Teachers College Columbia University. She has served as the reading specialist for 2nd graders at PS 6, as Coordinator of Academic Intervention Services for PS 75, and as a private tutor for elementary school students struggling with literacy skills. Since 2000, Judy has overseen the JCC’s literacy and math programs, creating numerous opportunities for volunteers to work one-on-one with students performing below grade level in our public schools. The programs take place during the day at school sites, as well as after school and in the evening in churches, shelters and NYCHA housing facilities.

1. 1. Jonathan Furlong Housing, Director of Organizing, Housing Conservation Coordinators:  Jon has been working in the affordable housing development field for the past 10-plus years. In his previous position at the Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development (ANHD), Jon was responsible for providing assistance and support to neighborhood-based non-profit organizations working on proposed re-zonings throughout New York City. His work included project management for neighborhood-based efforts, as well as coordination of ANHD’s efforts in a collaborative of citywide Technical Assistance providers.  He earned a Master’s Degree from Hunter College in Urban Affairs after which he worked as a labor organizer for the Service Employee’s International Union, Habitat for Humanity, Housing Here and Now, and the Pratt Area Community Council.
