(DNAINFO) Nicholas Rizzi | June 10, 2017 — The first section of the new Goethals Bridge will open to drivers over the weekend, with the original 89-year-old span closing for good Friday night.
The Port Authority will shutter the original Goethals Bridge at 10 p.m. on Friday then open up the first of two spans for the new one in stages over the weekend, according to the agency.
Workers will spend the weekend reconfiguring the approach lanes to the new bridge and open up the New York-bound side on Saturday afternoon and the New Jersey-bound lanes late Sunday afternoon, the Port Authority said.
The Bayonne Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing will remain open all weekend during the work.
