NYCHA residents without power, heat and hot water at Stapleton Houses for 2 days

NYCHA and Con Edison crews are working to restore power, heat and hot water to thousands of residents living in the Stapleton Houses on Staten Island.

The housing development was completely without heat and hot water since about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to NYCHA’s outage detector. Electric service for all 7 buildings – including 693 units with 1,881 residents – went down Tuesday at 8 a.m., according to the detector.New York City owed over $100M in unpaid water bills: DEP

Service was restored to all units and public spaces by 8:30 a.m., according to a NYCHA spokesperson. 

“We continue to work on the extensive permanent repair,” the spokesperson said.

Temperatures dipped below freezing Thursday morning. No lights were seen in the building, video shows. Only streetlamps illuminated the area near the complex.

NYCHA generators and equipment were seen surrounding the building.
