The proposed financing for Fulton-Elliott-Chelsea Houses is especially disturbing. Thousands of longtime NYCHA residents including frail elderly tenants-a deeply rooted community with disabled residents-generational tenants now face demolition, dislocation & years of upheaval so politically connected developers like Related can profit from a “mixed-income” remake.

Seniors will effectively be forced to move twice: once out of homes & support systems-yet again into whatever eventually emerges after yrs of construction. For vulnerable residents, it’s not merely inconvenient—it’s profoundly cruel. Gifted to Related? They benefited from OUR public subsidies to Hudson Yards-now taxpayers asked to subsidize destruction of existing public housing in the name of “affordability”? Public housing converted into Section 8 managed by private interests while market-rate expansion becomes the economic engine? Demolishing structurally viable residential buildings while the city claims to champion sustainability & climate responsibility? Rhetoric changes from one mayor to another but outcomes remain strikingly familiar!
