The Municipal Labor Committee and the City is pressuring the City Council to clear a path for a privatized Medicare Advantage Plan for retired city workers by amending Administrative code 12–126. This would allow the City to provide a less costly inferior healthcare plan to both retirees and active workers.
Will our city Council friends continue to fight for us and all the other municipal retirees?
Write and call your Council Person and demand them to vote no to protect our healthcare!

Dear Council Member,
I am an NYC resident and your constituent, and I am writing to urge you to vote NO on the Mayor’s proposed plan to change Administrative Code 12-126. This proposed plan will alter and diminish City retirees’ healthcare which has been enshrined in the Administrative Code for several decades. Changing Administrative Code 12-126 would end the legal protection of the excellent cost-free health insurance retirees have had since the 1940s.
The issue is that retirees won a lawsuit protecting their Medicare and supplemental insurance from Medicare Advantage Plan. The Court stated that the city could not force retirees into paying an extra $191 per month if they wanted to opt out of the inferior Medicare Advantage Plan they were being forced into. The victory was based on Administrative Code 12-26. So that is why they are now asking you, the Council, to take away these hard-won benefits by making this change.
Many employees entered City service with an eye toward stability in advanced years while opting for lower salaries in exchange. We implore you to consider this unfolding travesty when this matter comes before you and to enlist the support of your colleagues.
Please vote NO to any changes to Administrative Code 12-126.
Thank you,
