(DNAINFO) Maya Rajamani | April 14, 2017 — A local councilman hopes a bill aimed at Donald Trump’s Bronx golf course will force the president to turn over his tax returns.
Councilman Corey Johnson, whose district includes Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen and the West Village, plans to propose legislation that would require the company behind Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point to disclose the commander-in-chief’s tax returns, a spokesman for Johnson confirmed Wednesday.
The legislation would technically apply to “non-public benefit organizations” with city concessions contracts that don’t profit the city itself, but Trump Ferry Point LLC is the only vendor it would affect, the Daily News reported.
The city used $127 million in taxpayer money to build the golf course, but the Trump Organization operates it through a contract with the city and won’t be required to pay fees until 2019.
Under the yet-to-be-proposed legislation, any Trump Ferry Point LLC officers who share the corporation’s name would have to disclose their personal income taxes, Johnson’s spokesman said.
As Trump is an officer of the corporation and shares its name, the rule would apply to him, he added.
