Bus Service Shutting Down; City Mulls Full Travel Ban as Snow Intensifies

(DNAINFO) Nikita Venugopal and Katie Honan  | January 23, 2016 — The city is now facing more than 20 inches of snow.

The city is considering closing the roadways to all non-emergency vehicles amid a worsening blizzard that prompted the MTA to suspend all bus service in New York City at noon Saturday.

“Go home, stay home,” Mayor Bill de Blasio warned at a press conference Saturday morning, as he announced that the city is considering shutting down all roads for a mandatory travel ban amid what the mayor said could prove to be one of the worst snowstorms in the city’s history.

“It literally means except for emergency vehicles and authorized” people, all other travel on roads is banned,” the mayor said of the possible road shutdown, which he said would be decided with sufficient notice to get drivers off the road.
