DOT: Weekend Traffic Report For March 3-5, 2017

(MSCC) Eileen Miller, Frank Kelly, March 3-5, 2017 — NWS predicts: Scattered snow showers with possible embedded snow squalls are expected to move through the tai-state area late this afternoon into early evening, affecting the evening rush. During this time, brief heavy snowfall with visibility reduced to below half mile, along with wind gusts up to around 40mp will be possible. In addition, a quick snow accumulation of up to an inch will be possible in spots.

It has been a fantastic season for Bank of America Winter Village: the new design has been an unqualified success, our new partners performed admirably, and attendance has been tremendous all season long. It all comes to a close after Sunday, March 5. If you haven’t been here yet, we urge you to take this last opportunity to take advantage of the city’s only free-admission skating rink.

Free Tour34 Continues in March

Throughout February, New Yorkers and visitors alike enjoyed free tours of 34th Street, courtesy of 34th Street Partnership and The Municipal Art Society of New YorkTour34: Empire to Penn presents tours of our busy, dynamic neighborhood, led by trained MAS docents, and we’re extending the free offer through March.

This is a great chance to learn about the architecture, personages, and commercial history of an area that has seen incredible changes over the last 120 years.

There are four 1.5-hour tours each week:  Fridays at 12:30pm, Saturdays at 10:30am and then again at 12:30pm, and Sundays at 10:30am. You can register by emailing tours@mas.org. Each tour is a little different, so the meet-up location is given upon registration. Participants also can get a free coffee or soda at the Wafels & Dinges kiosk in Herald Square, with the purchase of a waffle.

London-based artist Matteo Zamagni uses fractal formulas to model man-made, organic and ethereal forms. Filtering the results through Google’s Deep Dream, the artist flattens his virtual reality to put the visitors of Times Square at the center of it all.

On Thursday, March 2, join artist Matteo Zamagni to view his Midnight Moment, Nature Abstraction. Please arrive by 11:30pm for the 11:57pm viewing on Duffy Square at Broadway and 46th Street.

West 36th Street between 7th Avenue and Broadway

This street will be closed 12:01 am to 5 pm Saturday and 7 am to 11:59 pm to facilitate crane operation.

West 38th Street between 10th Avenue and Amtrak Railroad

This street will be closed Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 10 pm to facilitate utility installations.

East 54th Street between Madison Avenue and 5th Avenue

This street will be closed Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm and Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm to facilitate crane operation.

Harlem River Drive (southbound) from Dyckman Street Entrance to Trans-Manhattan Expressway Ramp

The southbound Harlem River Drive will be fully closed from Dyckman Street to the Trans-Manhattan Expressway ramp Saturday, March 4, 2017 and Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 12:01 am to 10 am, and from 12:01 am to 5 am Monday, March 6, 2017 to facilitate NYCDOT Bridges Trans-Manhattan Expressway Connector Ramp rehabilitation. Motorists should follow the posted detour.
