February 18, 2016 Midtown South Community Council Monthly Meeting Minutes

Inspector Green opened the meeting by following up on the parking situation behind MTS headquarters, noting that it had improved in the past month.

Street performer pounding on buckets in front of Herald Towers, 50 W34th St, was removed from this location twice.

No increase in major crime categories except grand larceny. There were a number of quality arrests and follow-up with District Attorney’s office.

Inspector Green warned of scams during the tax season. He reminded attendees that the IRS does not ask for money over the phone. “If it seems too good to be true, it is”

John Mudd announced that the Community Council’s annual report is now on the website. He mentioned that Lisa Lombardi, Urban Pathways, (212 736 7385,575 8th Ave, NY, NY 10018 had helped resolved two homeless situations since last meeting.

John introduced the evening’s speaker, Kathryn Matthews, Integrative Nutrition Health, Workplace Wellness,, 646 470 1797. She outlined a roadmap to health involving food and lifestyle changes and offered attendees food allergy blood test & consultation for an introductory price. 

John Mudd introduced the second speaker for the meeting: Delores Rubin, Chair, Community Board 4, 330 W42nd St, 26th Flr, NY,NY 10036, 212-736-4536, CB 4 comprises the area between 14th and 59th Streets- to the west of 8th Ave north of 26th Street, and to the west of Sixth Ave, south of 26th Street. CB4 acts as a  bridge between NYC agencies.


Alicia Sheppard, Molly Wee Pub, 402 8th Ave, NYC spoke of the homeless and panhandllers interrupting business.

Capt. John Coates, NYPD Transit District 1,addressed the issue of homeless in the subway and their rights. “We do what we can to get them help”.

P.O. Martin Reyes, Auxiliary Coordinator, MTS, outlined the history of auxiliary policing dating back to 1950, and discussed NYPD auxiliaries’ training and annual recertification.

John Clancy, Foley’s Restaurant, 18 W33rd St, NYC, addressed the need for more police on the street.

The next MTS Community Council meeting will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016, 7:00 p.m., at the Wyndham New Yorker Hotel on 8th Avenue between 34th and 35th streets.
