Record Heat Causes Power Outages, Misery and the Longing for a Cool Breeze

(DNAINFO)  Kathleen Culliton | August 15, 2016 — A heat advisory is still in effect after a weekend when the heat index reached 112 degrees.

We’re not out of the frying pan yet.

New York City will be under a heat advisory until Monday night after a record-breaking heat emergencythat left almost 30,000 people without power, according to the National Weather Service and Con Edison.

The temperature Sunday broke a new record for August 14 in New York City, as it reached 94 degrees at John F. Kennedy Airport, up from 93 degrees in 2003, the NWS tweeted.

But it felt like 112 degrees, experts said.
