Teen Found Dead in Bedroom Inside Sleeping Bag Taped to Air Mattress: NYPD

(DNAINFO) Trevor Kapp and Aidan Gardiner | March 15, 2017 — A 15-year-old boy was found dead in his sleeping bag taped to an air mattress that was flipped over on top of him on the Upper East Side on Tuesday, sources said.

Takashi Tamiguchi didn’t go to school due to Tuesday’s blizzard forecast and instead stayed at his family’s East 85th Street home, near Lexington Avenue, while his mother went to work, sources said Wednesday.

His mother returned home and tried to tell him it was dinner time about 7:23 p.m. only to find Tamiguchi’s door locked, so she pushed the button to open it and found his mattress flipped over on the floor, sources said.

When she righted it, she found her son trapped in the bag and taped to it, sources said.

She frantically cut the tape and punctured the air mattress as she called 911, sources said.

Tamiguchi, who was only wearing a black bubble jacket and underwear, was pronounced dead in the apartment, police said. The Medical Examiner will determine how he died, NYPD officials said.
