Tenants Pac: Urgent Tenant Alert: Pass Good Cause!

(TENANTS PAC) May 24, 2022

Act now to help us get good cause eviction over the finish line!

There are a mere two weeks left in the legislative session. Our bill to prohibit evictions without good cause is very much alive. The real estate lobby has spent some $5 million so far to stop us with dishonest propaganda against the bill. We have strong support from a majority of members in both houses, but Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie are waffling. Andrea and Carl need to hear from YOUR Albany representatives.

What you can do:

(1) Call your state senator and your state assembly member. Tell them that they cannot end the session without passing this bill. Ask that they communicate that message to their respective leaders. Even if your representatives are strong supporters of the bill, they need to hear from you now. The Senate bill number is S3082. The Assembly bill number is A5573. Please use this tool to make your calls:

(2) Join Housing Justice for All at a rally for good cause this Friday, May 27, from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon. Foley Square is in downtown Manhattan, at the intersections of Worth Street, Lafayette Street and Centre Street, just north of City Hall.

(3) Join Housing Justice for All in Albany next Tuesday, May 31. We had more than 1,000 tenants in Albany last week demanding enactment of this bill, and we are making a final push next week. For information or to sign up for a bus:

Please don’t delay. We have only this week and next week to get this done. Pass Good Cause! Thanks!
