Assembly Member Richard Gottfried: Available Positions For Community or Citywide Education Council

Dear Friends:

If you’re a public school parent or guardian and interested in having a bigger voice in the education of New York City’s public school students, consider serving on a Community or Citywide Education Council.

The Councils play an important role in New York City’s public school system by  offering input on student instruction and educational policies . Parents or guardians of students in city public schools are eligible to serve on the Councils, with members elected to two-year terms.

The filing deadline to apply to serve on a Community or Citywide Education Council is Wednesday, March 11.

To learn more about Community and Citywide Education Councils and the eligibility requirements for parents interested in serving, please go to:   www.NYCParentLeaders.org

Prospective candidates can also attend hour-long information sessions.  The Manhattan session is from 6-7:00PM on Monday, March 2 at the Municipal Building, 1 Centre Street, 19th Floor South.  To find out about others, see http://www.nycparentleaders.org/selection-process-calendar.html

I encourage all parents or guardians of public school students to consider serving. It is a great way to get more more involved in your child’s education

Very truly yours,
Richard N. Gottfried
