Gov. Cuomo reported yesterday that the number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit beds across the state dropped by 17, marking the first daily decline amid the coronavirus pandemic. The modest, positive news was tempered by another crushing rise in the death toll.

In a bid to offer some ongoing perspective, we’ve added some features to our Coronavirus in New York City tracker. We’re now looking at hospitalizations in the city, as well as patient capacity at permanent hospitals — including ICU beds. 

The fluctuating figures, we hope, help tell the story of a fight for life where every minute counts.
