Union Square Thief Attacks Woman Over iPhone, Police Say

(DNAINFO)  Teddy Grant | July 17, 2017 — Police are looking for a suspect who assaulted a woman after a failed robbery attempt in Union Square on Tuesday, the NYPD said.

The 27-year old victim was walking down the stairs to catch the 4 train at the Union Square Station at West 14th Street when a woman went into her bag and stole her iPhone on July 11 around 1:10 p.m., according to the NYPD.

Once the victim realized her phone was missing, she confronted the suspect and retrieved her phone. The suspect then grabbed the victim and repeatedly struck her in the head before fleeing.

The suspect is described as a woman around 30 years old, 5-foot-3, with long straight brown hair and brown eyes. She was caught on surveillance leaving the station wearing a multi-colored dress.

The victim refused medical attention, officials said.
